"PEDESTRIANS ARE OUR RED LINE"

Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk and Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu attended the "Pedestrians are our red line" activity organized in order to raise awareness about traffic rules in schools as a part of "Pedestrians are Our Priority" Project.

Minister of National Education Ziya Selçuk and Minister of Interior Affairs Süleyman Soylu attended the "Pedestrians are our Red Line" activity organized at the Türkan Yamantürk Primary School.
 
Commander of the Gendarmerie Forces General Arif Çetin, Ankara Governor Vasip Şahin, Police Chief Mehmet Aktaş and Coast Guard Commander Admiral Ahmet Kendir were also present at the activity.
 
Students of the Türkan Yamantürk Primary School greeted Ministers Ziya Selçuk and Süleyman Soylu. Ministers attended the "Traffic Training" class for 3rd grade students.
 
After the end of the class, Soylu and Selçuk visited the "Mobile Traffic Training Truck" at the school garden and chatted with students about traffic rules.
 
Minister of National Education Selçuk said that "Pedestrians our Red Line" activity organized by the Ministry of Interior Affairs is very important in terms of giving detailed information about traffic rules and encouraging people to obey them. Noting that the Ministry of National Education is giving all kinds of support to the project, Selçuk thanked all people who contributed to the effort.
 
"Today, we are happy to meet with children as a part of this activity and convey our message. We are hoping to look to the future with hope and we are gradually reachinhg the point we want to achieve regarding traffic rules," said Selçuk.
 
"Now, Pedestrians are the Priority in Traffic"
Meanwhile, Minister Soylu pointed out that first steps concerning pedestrian prior traffic order was taken in 2018 and the Parliament passed a law within this framework adding that, "Now, pedestrians are the priority in Turkey".
 
"The law was passed in 2018. From this date until the end of 2020, pedestrian deaths as a result of traffic accident decreased to 516. We expect more decreases," said Soylu.
 
Stressing that there are rules that should be obeyed by the pedestrians and crossing the street where there are no pedestrian crossings may lead to traffic accidents, Minister Soylu stated that pedestrians have priority where there are traffic signs, school, hospital and pedestrian crossings and at intersection points.
 
Soylu said, "Rules are very simple. If you obey the rules, nobody gets hurt".
 
Following the speeches, Soylu and Selçuk painted the pedestrian crossing near the school in  red.
