Prime Minister Davutoğlu said today is a special day and added “It is the 100th anniversary of the Çanakkale victory. It is such a victory that its vibrations was not only felt in Çanakkale (Dardanelles), it was not only heard in Anatolia or Thrace, but all the oppressed people of the world who looked upon us for hope prayed for our victory and our brave warriors. The world was a witness. They saw that our nation will sacrifice its head but will not bow. Çanakkale is such a sacred place.”

“Çanakkale is such a place that all the divine feelings of our nation, all the feelings of deep gratitude for our martyrs surfaced in Çanakkale” Davutoğlu said and went on to say:

“People of Çanakkale, you are today the reflections of the brave ancestors. You are very lucky. You breath the Çanakkale air every day and you feel Çanakkale deep in your souls as you embrace the whole of the nation. Çanakkale is no longer just a city, it is the name of a saga, every 81 province of Turkey is a Çanakkale. Çanakkale is each and every province of ours. It is a legacy of history for us. The people of Çanakkale are the owners of that legacy.”

Prime Minister Davutoğlu pointed out that he had not pre-prepared his speech “however, when we were strolling only a few hundred meters from here, when I kissed the hand of auntie Şükran you embraced us so warmly that I could not leave without saluting you and receiving you goodwishes, it would have been an insult to the memories of our martys and to the people of Çanakkale. I thank you deeply, you embraced us.” Prime Minister Davutoğlu went on to say “look today the beloved flag of Azerbaijan is here to pay its respects to our martyrs. The fşag of free Syria is here in the name of the martyrs of Aleppo and Humus. The flags of Kirkuk and Basra are also here.”

There is no family that has not fought at Çanakkale”

“The hearts of Iraq, all of the Balkans, of the Middle East, of Central Asia and the Causcasus was with us during the Çanakkale war. Now our hearts are with them (in these times of trouble)” said Davutoğlu and added:

“My grandfather fought in the war here, his brother-in-law also fought here. There is no family whose member has not fought in Çanakkale. That is why wherever we are we are from Çanakkale, we were all born in Çanakkale irrespective of where are birth place is. If a legend had not been created in Çanakkale we may have been born but we would not be able to hold our heads up high and we would not be free. Salutations to the waters and rocks of Çanakkale. May our lives be sacrificed for Çanakkale. I do not want to keep you too much in the cold as we came together naturally, it was not planned. Our hearts and souls are getting together.

We send greetings from Çanakkale to İzmir, to Muğla to Aydın, we salute the spirit of liberation of our lands. Just a few minutes ago the people of Siverek, the Onbeşliler from Tokat were here. We extend our greetings to Rize, to Trabzon, to the Black Sea coastal areas, the Mediterranean coastal areas, to Thrace and to Rumelia. I do not want you to stay in the cold but when you go back home tell your neighbors tell them that we send them our greetings and tell them ‘the legacy of the martyrs of Çanakkale are in good hands. With the will of the Almighty we will carry this legacy of the Çanakkale martyrs on the 100th anniversary of the Çanakkale victory to the 100th anniversary of the Republic (October 2023) and we will transform Turkey into a global power.”
