Minister Avcı tours “The Great Meeting from Words to Writing” exhibition

Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı toured the classical Turkish Islamic arts exhibition “The Great Meeting from Words to Writing” at the Tophane-I Amire in Istanbul by the Islamic Culture and Arts Platform.

Minister Avcı visited “the Great Meeting from Words to Writing Exhibition” comprised of the Turkish Islamic arts work from the Mehmet Çebi collection.

 

The Quran was revealed in Mecca and written in İstanbul

Minister Avcı touring the exhibition with fine arts high school students thanked Mehmet Çebi for preparing the collection for the exhibition and teachers and students who showed interest in the event said “there is a widespread saying ‘the Quran was revealed in Mecca, recited in Cairo and was written in İstanbul.’ This is a saying showing the great contributions Turks made to Islamic civilization regarding the art of writing. In the past and today our calligraphers have given us great works in hand written Qurans and the Hadihts (teachings of the Prophet).”

Giving information to the students on the works of art being displayed Minister Avcı pointed to a charter displayed in the collection and said “this is a rarely found charter. It is a document presented by Sultan Vahdettin to Higher Trade School Math teaceher Kirkor Kömürcüyan between 1922 and 1923 as a second degree Medal of the Order of Education. So Kirkor was a very successful math teacher at the Higher Trade School which was university.”

 

Hand written Qurans on display at the exhibition

The exhibition whose curator was Mehmet Çebi at the Five Dome Hall of the Tophane-i Amire is displaying hundreds of years old Qurans and Delail-i Hayrat. The exhibition is also displaying examples of current and old works of Turkish Islamic art with 99 works being exhibited for the first time. The exhibition organized by the Islam Culture and Arts Platform which has been put together with the contributions of the Doğuş Holding and the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University will remain open until March 29.
