Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı participated in the opening of “Turkey’s New Illustrators Project” organized by the Bağcılar Municipality at the Disabled Palace as a part of his contacts in İstanbul.

Noting that he was honored to be present at the opening ceremony of the project, Minister Avcı stated the following:

“Every effort aiming at integrating disabled citizens in the society is worth appreciation regardless of its size and context. Within this framework, I would like to thank the Bağcılar Municipality and Mr. Mayor who had initiated Turkey’s New Illustrators and Illustrator Workshop Project and Well-abled Illustrator Awards Project as well as providing the disabled citizens the opportunity to sell their works via the internet.”

“You are all aware that the government has been showing great sensitivity to lift all kinds of barriers that have emerged in front of disabled citizens. Our government having the goal of implementing the requirements of being a social state for the benefit of disadvantageous groups is preparing greater projects in the future. Of course, there is still lot to do within this context.”

“We have achieved important steps for the appointment of disabled citizens”

“The Ministry of National Education has achieved important steps especially in the appointment of disabled citizens in state schools. In 2013, 311 disabled teachers started working at state school and today 1.282 disabled teachers are giving lessons to our students. In addition to this, we have a number of projects concerning the disabled students. Among them is providing home education opportunities for the disabled students who cannot go to school.”

“I am very glad to see that this workshop and this project include authors and illustrators. It seems that this project will continue to spread and those who participated in this project will continue to be involved in other art branches.”

Following his speech, Minister Avcı bought some works from the www.bencemakul.com internet site selling the works of project trainees.
