Speaking at the ceremony jointly organized by the Ministry of National Education, the Unity Foundation, the Young Union and the National Turkish Students Union at the Haliç (Golden Horn) Congress Center President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said the most important factor differing the Çanakkale War from the other wars beyond the political and military conditions of the conflict was the emergence of humanitarian values that emerged from it.

Prtesident Erdoğan said “this war has opened a new horizon for world peace as humanitarian values have been carried on to the 20th century. The respect that has been created by the soldiers of the two sides has established the humanitarian fabric of the future friendship and cooperation the Turkish Republic has established with the countries it fought against. That day we have established bridges of friendship that has grown from war front to war front from the trenches to trenches. Pointing out that this year a very important anniversary is being observed from the perspective of the country, the region and the world and added that the 100th year of the Çanakkale Victory is being marked with very different activities and programs since the start of the month and that these will continue both at home and abroad.

“I wish blessings for our martyrs who entered the dark earth as if they were entering a garden of roses”

President Erdoğan pointed out that he had attended several activities when he was in Çanakkale to observe the 14th March Medical Festivities and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was also in Çanakkale to attend certain proghrams to mark the occasion and added “the 100th anniversary of the Çanakkale naval victory was yesterday and the celebrations are in progress. Yesterday the anniversary of the Naval Victory was commemorated at Gallipoli with a very meaningful and jubilant ceremony as has been the case in the past years. We remembered over and over again the bravery that was displayed, the courage that our Mehmetcik (Turkish soldiers) came up withand the price they had to pay. Prayers and the Quranic verse of Al-Fatehah was recited. I once again want to use this opportunity to pray to the Almighty that the 100th anniversary of the Çanakkale Naval Victory will bring us blessings and jubilation. I once again commemorate our beloved martyrs and war veterans whose determination, patience and sacrifices created the international saying “Çanakkale cannot be conquered” with blessings, deep respect and gratitude. I also wish the Almighty bless all our martyrs throughout history for entering the dark soil as if they were entering a rose garden for the sake of righteousness, for the sake of their motherland, nation and flag. May the Lord embrace them with thy compassion and blessings. May the Lord place them in heaven.

Erdoğan said the Sarıkamış War, the Çanakkale Victory, the Kut’ül Amare Victory, the Medine Defense and the First World War should be properly studied and analyzed adding “we have to make use of this year in the best possible way as the State, as associations, foundations, nongovernmental organizations, as parents and as individuals. That is why I attach great importance for all our citizens from the 81 provinces of Turkey to visit Çanakkale, visit the war graves, the war memorials and live the spiritual climate of those lands.”

International Peace Summit will be organized between April 23 and 24

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan pointed out that the 100th anniversary of the Çanakkale land battles would be commemorated in Çanakkale on April 24 with a ceremony attended the heads of state, prime ministers and representatives of countries from all four corners of the world and added:

We received replies from about 30 heads of state and prime ministers that they will be attending this ceremony. The Çanakkale War is not an ordinary military conflict. The most important characteristic of the Çanakkale War was that beyond the political and military conditions of the conflict humanitarian values emerged and came to the forefront. The conflict has opened a horizon where humanitarian values have been carried over to the 20th century. This conflict was one of the greatest wars in history yet our Mehmetcik soldiers did not see the attackers just as their enemy but considered them with human beings who had hopes, affections, dreams, and families as a living person. Both sides have managed to forge humane relations despite the fact that they were fighting a war and were on opposite sides. The respect that was created between the soldiers of the two sides has established the humanitarian fabric of the future friendship and cooperation the Turkish Republic has established with the countries it fought against. That day we have established bridges of friendship that has grown from war front to war front from the trenches to trenches. With the will of the Almighty with the International Peace Summit we will organize in İstanbul on April 23 we will once again underline the importance of Çanakkale from this perspective we will give the world a different message. As the children of the sides who were warring against each other 100 years ago we will hopefully come together under one roof and will be giving messages of peace and fraternity to the whole world on April 23 and 24.

Children should know their mother tongue properly

Speaking at the occasion Minister of National education Nabi Avcı said as the ministry their priority is to help children read, write and speak their mother tongue properly. He said the competition is designed to contribute to this idea Minister Avcı added “this competition was very appropriate. The children learnt new things about Çanakkale and had the opportunity to research.” Referring to Minister of Youth and Sports Akif Çağatay Kılıç, Minister Avcı said “our minister provided our children with new areas of research. I want to follow up closely on the course he has put us.”
