Between April 4 and 18 our students of the Çanakkale Gelibolu Anafartalar Private Vocational Training High School (high school for the handicapped with hearing disability) were in the Spanish city of Marbella within the framework of a European Union Project. Two our our students Şakir Çelik and Serdar Fidan as well as their teacher Ümit Nalbant were the victims of a terrible accident where they lost their lives by drowning. A third student Hurşit Özbay was saved in wounded condition.

Our Ministry is in contact with the Spanish authorities at the highest level because of this tragic accident and wounded students and the bodies of the deceased will be brought to Turkey following an autopsy.

We voice our deep sorrow over the tragic incident, we wish the blessings of the Almighty for the deceased teacher and students, and we extend our condolences and offer our sympathy to the families of the dead and to the educational community of Turkey. We also wish a speedy recovery for the wounded student.
